Getting Ready for your Tinkergarten Live Session

We are so excited that your family will be joining us at Tinkergarten! If you are receiving live instruction at home (digitally),  follow these simple steps to get all set up:

Two days before your class:

Receive your pre-class email message, log into My Tinkergarten and gather materials:

To help you plan, two days before each class session, you'll receive a pre-class email message that contains a short list of the household materials you need for the live class session and a link to the at-home curriculum you can use later in the week to spark play at home.

If you'd like to plan ahead, you can reference the Curriculum Overview you can find in your My Tinkergarten page anytime to see the learning focus and materials you'll need each week.

One day before your class:

1. Download Zoom

All Tinkergarten class sessions take place on the video platform Zoom. Once you have downloaded the free zoom app, you can join class from anywhere you have an internet connection on a computer or device with a microphone and webcam. You can review system requirements for using the zoom platform here

2. Watch this quick tutorial to learn more about how we use Zoom features during class:

3. Test Zoom and practice.

Join a test meeting with your child to make sure Zoom is working properly on your device.

Practice the following:

  • Turn off / turn on microphone
  • Turn off / turn on video

Adults are welcome to participate alongside their children during sessions! If you do plan to step away during class, we recommend that your child practices using the mute and video functions.

4. Read this article with tips for supporting your child's experience in Tinkergarten class.

Five minutes before class starts:

1. Set out your materials for class.

Each week, children will be invited to bring an item to share with the group. At the end of each session, your Leader will let you know what materials to have ready for the next session. We’ll also send an email the day before with a reminder about which household items to have on hand.

2. Go to your Tinkergarten class.

You can join your live digital class right from your My Tinkergarten page. Just click "Join Session" from the "This Week" page.

Before the first session, we’ll also email you a zoom link and password. You can also click on that link in the email to join.

If you see a message that says "Please wait for the host to start the meeting" - wait a few moments! Your Leader will arrive soon!

That's it! You're ready to start your At-Home Tinkergarten class!

If you experience tech issues:

If you have questions, please refer to our troubleshooting tips here or head over to Zoom’s comprehensive help center. Unfortunately, our team is not equipped to provide technical support.

A note on safety:

The safety of our community is a top priority. We recommend that all participants leave their camera on so that Leaders and children can interact fully. For the safety of participants, our virtual sessions will not be recorded by the Leader and we require that families do not record or photograph the zoom sessions. You can read more about class policies here.
